People’s opinions about facebook

Facebook is a new popular trend with people of all ages. From young to old it seems that everyone I talk to has some opinion about facebook. I talked to people from 17 to 40 years old and they all seemed to know what facebook was, but had some very different opinions on it.
I really knew nothing about facebook except for what my 17 year old sister-in-law had told me about it. It seemed like I might have been the only person around that didn’t know what it was. Katie my sister-in-law said that “she loves her facebook it gives her and easy way to keep in contact with her older friends that had graduated from high school and moved on to college”. If she didn’t have time to call and talk with her friends she said that “while she was doing her homework on her computer she could flip over to her facebook and chat a little with her friends”.
Jason Compton a 35 year old man that I asked about facebook said that “he used his to keep in contact with some of his family that lived far away”. It was easier than trying to call them because of the time difference and he didn’t have to worry about long distance charges. I was kind of surprised by the fact the number of people around my age who knew what facebook was and the number of them that used facebook.
I on the other hand new very little about facebook and what it was for. Every time I would look at Katie’s facebook it seemed like people would put some really stupid stuff on there that made no sense to me. It seemed to me that facebook was a way for people to communicate without communicating.
All and all the people that I talked with about facebook seemed to like it and said that it was easier for them to communicate with friends and family rather than trying to catch them on the phone. So I guess maybe I’m just out of touch with the new ways in which people communicate but I still like the personal connection of the phone or face to face communication. Maybe with this class I will learn to be a little more in touch with the newer ways of today’s society.

Interesting post Christopher. I have never herd someone's view of Facebook in the way you have just described. I too prefer to communicate via phone or in person, however with today's fast paced lifestyle, that isn't always an option. I use Facebook daily and I think it is a great way to find people I have not seen or talked to in years! As life goes on people wind up in different places and we lose touch. Facebook is a great way to regain that link and see what is going on in other people's lives. Give it a try I'm sure you will really find it interesting.
